What licensed removal means and when it applies
Licensed asbestos removal is required when the work involves high-risk asbestos materials: sprayed coatings, lagging on pipes and boilers, and asbestos insulating board. These materials release far more fibres than cement sheets and require a higher standard of control.
The Health and Safety Executive requires any contractor carrying out this type of work to hold a licence. Our licence is issued through Spectra, number 142305706. Before any licensed work begins, we submit a notification to the HSE at least 14 days in advance. This is a legal requirement. The notification details the site, the materials, the method of removal, and the control measures in place. We handle this notification process entirely.
Notifiable non-licensed work
Not all commercial asbestos work needs a full licence. There is a category called notifiable non-licensed work, which covers materials that are lower risk than sprayed coatings and lagging but still require formal notification to the enforcing authority.
This includes work with asbestos cement products, textured decorative coatings, and some types of asbestos-containing floor tiles in commercial settings. The work must still be notified, risk assessed, and carried out by competent contractors using appropriate controls. We handle both categories.
