Cement sheet does not last forever. Frost gets into the surface, moss takes hold, rain works at the hairline cracks, and slowly the binder breaks down until the fibres near the surface are no longer held tight. A roof in that condition sheds material whenever the wind picks up or someone leans a ladder against it. That is why a tired, deteriorating roof matters more than a sound one, and why the worst thing to do is climb up and start pulling at it yourself. We bring them down in sections, keep the offcuts contained, and clear the ground beneath before anyone walks back through. On a longer terrace or a deeper detached house the eaves run can be a fair distance, so we work along it methodically rather than tearing the lot down at once.

Two sheets that look the same can test differently, so anything we are unsure about is sampled and sent to a UKAS-accredited laboratory before work starts. Results usually come back within a few working days, and we will not begin removal until we know what we are dealing with.

We give the HSE the fourteen days of notice they require, work under full enclosure with air monitoring running throughout, and finish with four-stage clearance testing by an independent analyst who has to sign the space off before it is handed back.
